Where Dani writes about… just about everything!

You would think that absolutely no inclement weather ever passes through this area — save for the occasional tornadoes, of course, you can’t forget those since we live right in the middle of Tornado Alley — with the way people were driving this morning. Living approximately four hours from the Gulf of Mexico, storms are no stranger to us when a hurricane strikes the land below us with enough force to send residual showers our way. Since I live near the largest army base in the free world, I’m used to seeing people from all states and walks of life here. It’s a nice melting pot, but it still stands to fact that almost no one around here can drive when roads are flooded, iced over or snowed on.

When roads ice, everyone who doesn’t have some pressing matter to attend to spends the rest of the day holed up in their house because Driving On Ice Is Bad And No One Can Do It. The people who are brave enough to venture outside drive under the speed limit to make up for those more brave denizens… and the latter of those two are the ones who always make it onto the news for hydroplaning their vehicles, which only makes more people want to hole themselves up inside until the ice storm has passed. It’s a vicious cycle. The same can also be said for snow days, which we admittedly don’t get very much of here in central Texas. As a matter of fact, the last actual snow day that we had was in late February of this year — schools began closing down left and right as soon as the snow started sticking to the ground, even the colleges!

Today was relatively tame compared to those, though. And by tame, I mean a lot of the roads in this area were either flooded or in the process of flooding. Luckily for me, I didn’t see any wrecks on the way to school this morning or on the way back later on this afternoon…

A Song That Makes You Laugh

This song sings about ninjas. How can it possibly be any more awesome? :P

At any rate, I only have five more days left to go and I am done with this meme. Like I said in a previous post, I’m pleased with myself for having stuck with it for so long. Fortunately for me, I’ll be done with it before this semester gets too hectic — even if I’m only attending part-time and taking two classes!

One week in and I had my first quiz!

I got a B on my first Statistics quiz! For some reason, I had managed to psych myself out over it for the first half of the weekend… but since we have two chances to take the quiz and my professor takes the higher of the two grades made, I decided to take it last night. My highest grade wound up being an 87% after nearly three evenings’ worth of studying! Although this may not sound like a whole lot of time to some of you, we only covered three sections — and all of the first chapter of our textbook, as it wound up being — this last week. Surprisingly enough, the first chapter of Stats covered the vocabulary that would become an integral part of the rest of our class time, which might explain why I did as well as I did on that first quiz. Right now, I have a B in a math class and I’m stoked! Hopefully this holds for the rest of the semester.

Luckily, we won’t be having weekly quizzes in my History of Religions class for a few more weeks. Now that I’ve gotten my own student bible from the campus bookstore, I need to remind myself to give Matt back his family’s bible. Seeing as how I came out to Matt’s mother as an atheist, I don’t feel comfortable continuing to keep their bible in my possession. His mother seems like she would be the kind of person to attempt to call in favors of her own for niceties done, and I’m not about to allow her to potentially jeopardize my grade in this class if she tells me that she wants their bible back unless…
