C'est La Vie Where Dani writes about... just about everything! 2010-09-08T23:02:27Z http://blog.little-miss.org/?feed=atom WordPress Dani http://blog.little-miss.org/ <![CDATA[Well, today was a really interesting day…]]> http://blog.little-miss.org/?p=17565 2010-09-08T23:02:27Z 2010-09-08T22:52:09Z You would think that absolutely no inclement weather ever passes through this area — save for the occasional tornadoes, of course, you can’t forget those since we live right in the middle of Tornado Alley — with the way people were driving this morning. Living approximately four hours from the Gulf of Mexico, storms are no stranger to us when a hurricane strikes the land below us with enough force to send residual showers our way. Since I live near the largest army base in the free world, I’m used to seeing people from all states and walks of life here. It’s a nice melting pot, but it still stands to fact that almost no one around here can drive when roads are flooded, iced over or snowed on.

When roads ice, everyone who doesn’t have some pressing matter to attend to spends the rest of the day holed up in their house because Driving On Ice Is Bad And No One Can Do It. The people who are brave enough to venture outside drive under the speed limit to make up for those more brave denizens… and the latter of those two are the ones who always make it onto the news for hydroplaning their vehicles, which only makes more people want to hole themselves up inside until the ice storm has passed. It’s a vicious cycle. The same can also be said for snow days, which we admittedly don’t get very much of here in central Texas. As a matter of fact, the last actual snow day that we had was in late February of this year — schools began closing down left and right as soon as the snow started sticking to the ground, even the colleges!

Today was relatively tame compared to those, though. And by tame, I mean a lot of the roads in this area were either flooded or in the process of flooding. Luckily for me, I didn’t see any wrecks on the way to school this morning or on the way back later on this afternoon… but getting across campus proved to be somewhat frustrating because it was really pouring, and I had somehow managed to forget my umbrella in the process. Luckily for me, Matt walked me from the student center to the academic building. But since we only start classes at the same time on Mondays and Wednesdays, I was left to fend for myself after History of Religions I got out. :P By “fend for myself”, I mean rush to the bookstore to see if they had any TI-84 calculators — they didn’t — and then rush back to the academic building to get picked up by my father.

By the time all of that was done, I was waterlogged up to my knees.

I’m actually going to teach myself this on the keyboard later! :) It’s always been one of my favorites. Even as the years have progressed, Final Fantasy VII is still one of my favorite games, and this is one of my favorite songs.

Dani http://blog.little-miss.org/ <![CDATA[So, I’m looking for the best web host…]]> http://blog.little-miss.org/?p=17544 2010-09-07T21:59:19Z 2010-09-07T21:53:38Z Over the course of these last few months, I’ve been thinking about branching out from this blog and making a whole new site. Having been inspired by some of my favorite bloggers to run it on top of the domain rather than as a sub-domain, I’m hoping that this decision will pay off for me in the long run — as a matter of fact, this is exactly why I’m trying to find the best web hosting. All I need is enough bandwidth to cultivate a consistent readership and engaged audience, as would I benefit from having enough space to install WordPress and quite possibly house some creative content of mine. For the most part, though, it’s going to be my blog that takes up the most space there.

I’ve found that being able to scrutinize the various web hosts that are out there helps! On WebHostingChoice.com, I’m able to analyze the perks of some of the most popular web hosts side by side. For instance, I can immediately see what monthly price they charge as soon as I go to the site; I can also see whether or not the host space comes with its own free domain. I found out that most of them do, which surprises me! Now I know exactly who to buy space from… :P

Dani http://blog.little-miss.org/ <![CDATA[Now that I’m feeling better, I’ll post!]]> http://blog.little-miss.org/?p=17531 2010-09-07T21:43:56Z 2010-09-07T21:06:14Z Because of my friend Lena, I am now playing Sorority Life on Facebook. Aside from that, all I play on there is Castle Age and PetVille — I’ve kind of stopped playing Cafe World and Farmville because I didn’t feel like I could juggle them along with everything else that I do, although I did check back into my cafe long enough to see if everything was still there. Surprisingly enough, the place hadn’t burned down and I still had a cafe standing. It’s something that I may pick back up as the months progress and I begin to have more of this thing called free time, although I’ve managed to set my daily schedule up in such a manner that I’m still wondering how I manage to get as much done as I do. :P

However, in thinking about that I have come to realize that it wouldn’t hurt for me to make slightly more time for myself. Upon finding out that I was pregnant, it became one of my goals not to let all semblances of myself slip away even after the birth of my son. For the most part, I’ve held true to my promise to myself and have made time to indulge in hobbies like playing computer games and video games… but I’m starting to think that I would benefit from having a little bit more time to myself, where I can simply be me.

Over the course of these last few months, I’ve become the kind of person who will attempt to fill most of whatever spare time she has… doing things for and with her sons. :P As much as I know that’s not a bad thing, I also realize that I don’t need to spend every free moment of mine in such a manner. I’m still me.
