If I had known about places where you could get tropical fish for sale, I might not have… settled quite so happily for the carnival fish that I got back in 2010. The one that, you know, was supposed to be a present for my son after he was born — that thing didn’t even make it that long, though.
As a matter of fact, the first time I changed his water wound up being the end for him even though I did it in the most careful and safest way possible. I gradually acclimated the water to the temperature that was in his bowl, put the necessary drops in it and then gradually went about getting him in there. This thing was nothing like the beta fish that I had as a child — if I recall, Tracee lived for several years before she succumbed to the eventual fin rot that a lot of these fishes die from.
I kind of want another beta fish, or at the very least another guinea pig for the kids to learn about and love on. That wouldn’t be such a bad idea, now that I think about it more. When Jason was younger, we did have some cavies here…
