I’m not sure if this will be the only post that I make about the election, but…
However, I can tell you with certainty that Mitt Romney has not gotten my support. Even though I am more of a scientifically minded person than I am a political one, I always thought it was important in elections to get the votes of your party and those in the middle — those who weren’t yet decided, Independents, that sort of thing. Not only has Romney made this election particularly polarizing by virtue of his stances on everything he’s discussed thus far, but his Vice Presidential pick has made things that much more polarizing. Obama has a much better chance of capturing the votes of these centrists and the swing states than does Romney, and I’m not even sure he’s aware of this yet. If he is, he might think the states he has are enough to get him the required electoral votes to win the election. It… doesn’t look that way.
That, and Romney and Ryan decidedly anti-woman in a lot of his policies. Although these things might stem from the religious affiliations of each of the two men — Mormon and Catholic, respectively — these are not things that need to be pushed on the country en masse. After all, not every person in this country is Mormon or Catholic. These policies are an easy way to get people to resent them, though… whether it’s particularly religious mandates or just those who came up with the policies. Women are half of this country’s voting base…
